Journalism and Media Studies
Students within JMS are part of a School that envisions a global society where citizens are engaged in their communities, where media professionals are ethical and committed to social justice, and embrace technology to serve the public good; and where people from all backgrounds think critically about the media. Program OverviewThe School of Journalism and Media Studies offers four undergraduate degree options as well as a master’s degree:
Competency is required in one foreign language as part of the preparation for the major. Students also are required to take a set of core classes in global communication and technology, ethics and law, and research methods for professional communicators. Faculty HighlightsAll full-time faculty have professional media experience and doctorates in communication, mass communication, or related fields. Part-time instructors are all experienced media professionals, and most have earned higher degrees. Faculty are highly respected nationally and internationally for their scholarly work, and many also author the top textbooks in their fields.
