All New Transfer Students are Expected to Attend Orientation

SDSU is committed to your academic success. Therefore, you are expected to attend New Student Orientation to help you learn what you need to know to be a successful student.

Here’s Why You Must Attend!

The transfer orientation program is designed with the needs of upper-class students in mind. Distinct from the freshman program, this program addresses issues that affect transfer students in their transition to the university community.

New Student Orientation for transfers is held in August. Look for a brochure in the mail in May. Please note that it is important you choose a date when your specific major will be represented, so review the Web site carefully, and make reservations online beginning May 1.

Specific details about New Student Orientation will be available on the Office of New Student and Parent Programs Web site beginning in January. For more information, call the Office of New Student and Parent Programs at (619)594-1509.

What Last Year’s Students Said About Orientation

Over 85 percent of the students left orientation with a schedule of classes for their first semester and an understanding of how to use SDSU's online registration system.

After attending orientation 93 percent of the surveyed students had an understanding of the requirements of their academic program.

Over 92 percent of the surveyed students learned where to go for assistance related to his/her academic program.

Parent Orientation

Parent involvement plays a key role in the academic success of students during their college years. For this reason, SDSU sponsors a Parent Orientation Program that runs concurrently with the student program. After the welcome, students and parents will be separated into different sessions.

Parents will have the opportunity to interact with faculty, administrators, staff and trained student Ambassadors to learn about college life, academic programs, the Aztec Parents Association, and how to promote the personal development and academic success of students. Parents attending Orientation automatically become members of the Aztec Parents Association. Over 95 percent of the surveyed parents recommended attending parent orientation to future Aztec parents.
