Registration fees are normally due a few weeks before your registration date. You will receive a postcard in May telling you to go to “My Registration” in your SDSU WebPortal for your registration date and fee payment information. You are not billed for these fees. The postcard is only sent prior to your first semester at San Diego State University.
You may pay your fees online at http://www.sdsu.edu/sfs using a credit card (MasterCard, American Express or Discover) or electronic check, or you may download a payment coupon from the SDSU WebPortal. If you paid the $250 Intent to Enroll deposit, please subtract this amount from your Registration Fee payment. You should also pay for Parking and ID fees with your Registration fee payment if necessary.
If you are eligible for financial aid fee deferment, you do not need to pay Registration Fees before you register. You can determine your eligibility for financial aid fee deferment by accessing “My Registration” in the SDSU WebPortal. When your financial aid is disbursed, amounts due for registration fees and housing will automatically be deducted from the amount you receive.
Any additional fees incurred because of additional units added or lab fees assessed will be billed after the schedule adjustment period (the first 15 days of class instruction). You will receive an e-mail that will direct you to the Student Financial Services Web site so that you can download and pay your billing. It is a good idea to check your student account (select Student Account Services) every few weeks in case you do not receive an e-mail. The billing calendar is located on the Student Financial Services Web site.
More information about registration fees is located at : http://www.sdsu.edu/sfs.
San Diego State University provides federal and state financial aid (grants, part-time jobs, and student and parent loans), as well as a variety of scholarships to eligible students. You can use AidLink, SDSU's online financial aid information system, to check the status of your SDSU aid application at any time.
To be considered for financial aid, complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon after January 1 as possible. Since new Cal Grant program applicants must apply by March 2, we strongly encourage everyone who needs financial assistance to apply by this date.
The FAFSA is all you need to begin the application process and we urge you to complete your FAFSA online. Once at the site, go to the “Before Beginning a FAFSA” link and print a FAFSA on the Web Worksheet. Complete the Worksheet before entering information online and make sure to list SDSU’s federal school code of 001151.
Your information is received electronically by SDSU one to four weeks after you submit your FAFSA to the federal student aid processing center (online or using the paper FAFSA). The federal processor will provide you with a Student Aid Report (SAR) summarizing the information you submitted. Review the SAR for accuracy and follow the instructions provided should you need to make corrections. You do NOT need to submit your SAR to the SDSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS). The OFAS will notify you if additional documentation is needed to complete your financial aid record.
Applications are reviewed and awarded throughout the year based on available funding. January through May, however, is considered the optimum time period to apply and receive funds at the beginning of the fall semester.
The SDSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) uses e-mail to communicate with aid applicants about documentation needed, disbursement holds, and awards. The OFAS home page and secure Web site, AidLink, have been enhanced to streamline the application and award process for SDSU students. Go to your SDSU Web Portal and select E-Mail/Address Update to make sure there is a valid e-mail address on record for you. Use the AidLink Web site to view your personal financial aid information, download and print documents you need to submit, activate your student loan(s) and more.
SDSU’s standard cost of attendance (based on your state residency and housing situation), your calculated family contribution (reported on your SAR), and other factors are used to determine your eligibility for federal and state grants, work study (part-time work), and educational loans. To be considered for financial aid each year, you must complete the FAFSA after January 1 for the next academic year and maintain satisfactory academic progress. The SDSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships Web site provides detailed information about the aid programs and application process.
Disbursement of the fall 2007 portion of financial aid begins on August 23rd for direct deposit with the University Disbursements Office. All other financial aid disbursements will begin on August 27th. The fastest and safest way to receive your financial aid funds is through the University Disbursement Office direct deposit program. For further information, log on to the Student Financial Services Web site.
A scholarship is a monetary award given to outstanding students to foster developing talents and academic excellence, and in recognition of leadership and outstanding achievement. SDSU scholarship funds are provided by private donors, corporations, professional associations, and SDSU alumni. Some scholarships may be awarded based on financial need.
For specific SDSU scholarship requirements and applications visit the SDSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships Web site. The SDSU scholarship applications are available during the main application period November through early February. The SDSU scholarship applications must be submitted or postmarked no later than February 5, 2007. Students should regularly check the Web site as additional scholarships are posted throughout the year.
If you check the Financial Aid and Scholarships payment option on your SDSU Housing License Agreement, you will need to ensure that sufficient funds will be available to meet all applicable Office of Housing Administration deadlines. Visit the Office of Housing Administration Web site for payment deadlines. The total financial aid and scholarships available to you for the semester must be equal to, or greater than, the amount owed by the due date. If it is not, you will be responsible for making that payment with your own resources. If your award includes Direct Loans, keep in mind that the process to activate these loans (particularly Parent Loans) can take several weeks. Be sure to allow plenty of time for processing if you want to use the loan funds to make your housing payments.
Be sure to print, read and discuss the 6 Steps with your parents in order to get the most out of the information.
