SDSU Readmission Criteria
Fall 2009

To be considered for admission to SDSU, readmission applicants should meet the following minimum CSU eligibility requirements and SDSU requirements. Applicants not meeting the following requirements will be ranked based on how closely they meet the criteria and considered for admission on a space-available basis.

Supplemental Transfer Application (mandatory requirement)

All Readmission applicants must submit an additional online supplemental application. Beginning October 1, 2008, visit the SDSU WebPortal and follow the instructions to create a WebPortal account. You must have a RedID and working e-mail address to activate your account. Your RedID will be e-mailed to you within a few days of applying to SDSU. Once you have a portal account, choose "Supplemental Application" to begin the process. To ensure accuracy, obtain a personal copy of your transcripts prior to filling out the supplemental application. Do not submit your supplemental application until your fall grades and courses have been reflected on your transcript and updated on the supplemental application.

The supplemental application will ask you to:

Online Resources for Readmission Applicants

Online Transfer Admission Planner (TAP)

SDSU’s TAP program is a repository of courses that have been articulated or approved as equivalent between SDSU and other colleges and universities. Go to TAP to learn if a specific course at your institution will meet a specific course requirement at SDSU.

TAP is available at www.sdsu.edu/tap. Through TAP, you can identify:

The deadline to submit the supplemental application is January 22, 2009.

General Education (GE) Courses

You must complete all lower-division GE by the end of spring 2009. SDSU’s TAP will help you identify which courses at your college may be used to meet the GE requirements at SDSU.

Please refer to the following options:

GE Certification: Students transferring from a California community college can complete the CSU GE certification pattern to satisfy all lower-division GE requirements.

Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC): The IGETC is a series of courses that community college students can use to satisfy lower-division GE requirements at any CSU or UC campus. The majority of the units must be completed at a California community college.

SDSU General Education Pattern: Engineering, Liberal Studies, Nursing, single subject credential majors, and all students outside of the California community college system should follow an SDSU GE pattern. Visit the General Catalog online for General Education details.

A grade of C or higher is required in each of the following "Golden Four" courses:

Oral Communication: Basic public speaking course. Other communication courses that are certified by a California community college will be accepted.

Written Communication: Typically a freshman composition course that emphasizes essay writing or reading and writing concurrently.

Critical Thinking: Typically your second semester composition or writing course, or a course in reasoning and effective argumentative writing.

Mathematics: This course must be beyond intermediate algebra.

Preparation for the Major Courses

Students will be ranked based on the completion of major preparation courses that are articulated or approved as equivalent and offered at the college(s) attended during the year prior to transfer. TAP will inform you if there are specific grade requirements for individual courses or combination of courses.

You need to complete the major preparation requirements that are in place at the time you apply. For fall 2009 admission, follow the fall 2009 requirements listed on TAP. Graduation requirements may be different based on the catalog that is in effect at the time you enroll at SDSU.

Grade Point Average Requirement

Your grade point average (GPA) is based on all transferable units attempted. The GPA required for your major is available on SDSU’s Transfer Admission Planner or www.sdsu.edu/majorgpa.

Fall admission is based on self-reported information. If you are admitted, your admission is provisional pending verification from your official transcript of the self-reported information on your application and supplemental application. Your admission may be rescinded if your GPA or course grades are lower than what is reported on the application. Please make sure to report accurate information.

* Your official notification of admission is the letter you received in the mail. Please note that this site does not indicate proof of admission.
