Step 1:
Submit to the University:

California State University application electronically at CSUMentor along with the $55 application fee.

Step 2:
Submit to SDSU Graduate Admissions:

  1. Official transcripts (in sealed envelopes) from all postsecondary institutions attended
    Note:
    • Please do not send transcripts before submitting the CSUMentor application as this may result in processing delays.
    • Students who attended SDSU need only submit transcripts for work completed since last attendance
    • Students with international coursework must submit both the official transcript and proof of degree. If documents are in a language other than English, they must be accompanied by a certified English translation.
  2. GRE scores (www.ets.org, SDSU Institution Code 4682)
  3. TOEFL score, if medium of instruction was in a language other than English (www.ets.org, SDSU Institution Code 4682)

Step 3:
Submit to the Department:

  1. A Biology Department Application form
  2. At least three letters of recommendation in sealed and signed envelopes
  3. A personal statement 1-3 pages in length (Note: This statement is a separate requirement from the statement submitted on the CSUMentor application.)
  4. Resume
  5. An optional application for positions as teaching assistants and graduate assistants

Departmental forms and detailed application instructions can be found on the Application Procedure for Masters Programs Web site. Please read all instructions carefully.

Fall Deadline
Domestic Applicants: May 1*  
International Applicants: May 1*

*Note: February 1 is the preferred deadline for the masters programs in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Priority will be given to completed applications received by this date. Review of applications received after February 1 will continue until all spaces are filled.

Spring Deadline
Domestic Applicants: November 1  (October 1 if applying for assistantships)
