How and When to Apply to SDSU

SDSU uses the California State University common admission application through the CSUMentor Web site. An application filing fee must accompany your application. There is a separate application for undergraduate and graduate/ post-baccalaureate admissions. If you cannot apply online, you should contact the Office of Admissions to make special arrangements to apply electronically with campus assistance.

Apply as early as possible. CSU undergraduate applications will be accepted only during the filing period. It is very important that you thoroughly and accurately complete the information requested. Offers of admission will be rescinded if SDSU criteria are not met after the final review of transcripts. Once your CSU application is processed, SDSU may request additional information prior to making an admission decision.

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate applicants include first-time freshmen and transfer students. A first-time freshman is defined as a student who has earned no college credit after the summer immediately following high school graduation. Students with more than 60 transferable semester units (90 quarter units) are considered upper-division transfers.

Fall undergraduates accepted for admission to SDSU will be notified between January and March.

Undergraduate students may apply to only one program at a time and may change their major only after they are admitted.

Graduate Students

Graduate applicants are students who have completed a four-year degree and are pursuing a post-baccalaureate degree.

Graduate admission decisions are made throughout the year. Once you have applied for admission, check your Admission Status in the WebPortal for your admission decision.

Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships

The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships each require an application that is separate from the CSU admission application. This office does not automatically send you information when you apply for admission to the university. If you require financial aid or would like to apply for a scholarship, go to the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships Web site or contact the office directly to receive its application, information and filing deadline dates. Do not wait until you are admitted to SDSU to apply. Early application is to your benefit!
