Your Major
Academic Program Overviews
Academic Program
Overviews for each major provide you with an overview of each major, special
features about the major, and career opportunities in that field.
You will also find department contact information and a link to
department home pages.
Seeing an Adviser
There are four
types of advisers at SDSU, including Academic Advising Center
advisers, major/faculty advisers, EOP advisers, and preprofessional
advisers.
Major/faculty advisers for each major are available to help you
plan your upper division course schedule, and provide you with
advice about career options and graduate school. The Directory
of Advisers provides a list
of major advisers, preprofessional advisers, Educational Opportunity
Program (EOP) advisers, and Athletics advisers.
Declare/Change Your Major
Students must officially declare a major before they can graduate
from SDSU. To declare or change your major, you must file a “Declaration
of Major” form with the Office of the Registrar. You will
be held to major
requirements in the General Catalog that are
in effect at the time you declare your major. Refer to the Declare/Change
Your Major page for details.
Major Academic Plans
Major Academic
Plans (MAPs) were
created to help SDSU first-time freshmen navigate the course requirements
for their majors. The MAP for your major will help you identify
which General Education course will also fulfill a major preparation
course requirement. They will also suggest sequencing to ensure
that you complete prerequisites for an upper-division course prior
to taking the higher-level course.
Impacted Majors
Many majors at SDSU have more students wanting to declare that
major than can be accommodated. As such, they are designated as
impacted majors. All students who are admitted to SDSU and want
to declare an impacted major are placed in a premajor or a major
(if all requirements are met at time of admission).
All premajors must meet department-specific criteria to move
from the premajor to the major, such as a specified minimum grade
point average, completion of prerequisite courses, tests, and completion
of a certain number of units.
Refer to the General Catalog for impaction criteria or visit www.sdsu.edu/impactedmajors. |
