Commencement Ceremony
Rehearsal
This year the College of Education will be sharing its commencement ceremony with the Division of Undergraduate Studies. A commencement rehearsal will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17 in Cox Arena. Students are strongly encouraged to attend this rehearsal. Participants should gather in Parking Lot L (north of Cox Arena). Candidates will participate in a walk-through of the ceremony and receive important information for their guests.

Entrance to Cox Arena
Due to stringent security measures, ALL students participating in Commencement are required to present their SDSUcard (RedID card) in order to be admitted to Cox Arena. STUDENTS WHO DO NOT BRING THEIR SDSUcard TO COMMENCEMENT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMENCEMENT.

Commencement Procession
No later than 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 20, credential candidates and candidates for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees will assemble at department and program signs, attired in cap and gown, in Parking Lot L (north of the Arena).

At your assembly area, faculty marshals and student ushers will organize the processional lines. Candidates will line up behind the sign designating their departments. While waiting in line, you will fill out cards asking for your name, degree and address. College representatives will use these cards to announce your name as you walk across the stage. In addition, commencement photographers will use these cards to send you photo information.

The processional will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m.

Guest Admission/Seating
To ensure orderly entrance to Cox Arena, guests must have tickets. Candidates may pick up complimentary, reserved seat tickets at GradFest, April 10 - 12 between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Ceremony
The ceremony will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. Dean Lionel "Skip" Meno will preside over the ceremony. Degree and credential candidates will be recognized individually as they walk across the stage to receive their diploma covers and certificates.

Photography
As a service to students and their friends and families, a commercial photographer will be taking two pictures of every candidate as he/she crosses the stage. Candidates will receive photo proofs in the mail at the address given at the ceremony and may then order photos as desired, although there is no obligation to do so.

Guests must remain seated throughout the ceremony and may not block the view of others for purposes of taking pictures or videos.  Guests will not be allowed to stand in the aisles during the ceremony. After the ceremony is completed, there will be ample opportunity  to seek a wide variety of backgrounds for pictures on the campus. Video camera or camera tripods are not allowed at Cox Arena.
