Commencement Ceremony
Rehearsal
On Thursday, May 21 at 9:30 a.m., a  platform party only rehearsal will take place in Cox Arena.
Entrance to Cox Arena
Candidates must access Parking Lot L from the ground level, across from Parking Structure 4.  All guests must access Cox Arena through the main entrance gates.

Due to stringent security measures, ALL students participating in Commencement are required to present their SDSUcard (RedID card) in order to be admitted to Cox Arena. STUDENTS WHO DO NOT BRING THEIR SDSUcard TO COMMENCEMENT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMENCEMENT.
Commencement Procession
No later than 10:15 a.m. on Friday, May 22, Bachelor, Master’s and Doctoral candidates, should line up behind department signs in Parking Lot L (north of Cox Arena) in cap and gown attire.

At your assembly area, faculty marshals and student ushers will organize the processional lines. Candidates will line up two-by-two behind the sign designating their departments. While waiting in line, you will fill out cards asking for your name, degree and address. College representatives will use these cards to announce your name as you walk across the stage. In addition, commencement photographers will use these cards to send you photo information.

The processional will begin promptly at 11 a.m.

Inclement Weather Policy: Candidates for ceremonies in Cox Arena should gather on the first floor of Parking Structure 4.  At your assembly area, faculty marshals and student ushers will organize the processional lines. Candidates will line up behind the signs designating their departments.

Guest Admission/Seating
To ensure orderly entrance to Cox Arena, guests must have tickets. Candidates may pick up complimentary, reserved seat tickets at GradFest, April 14 - 16 between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Ceremony
Dean Marilyn Newhoff will preside over the ceremony, which will begin promptly at 11 a.m. and last for approximately two hours. Graduates' names will be announced as they walk across the stage to receive their diploma covers and be congratulated by the dean. All masters and doctoral candidates will be hooded on stage.

All graduates and guests should remain seated until the ceremony is concluded by Dean Marilyn Newhoff.

Graduates will exit Cox Arena at floor level, and guests will exit from the top gates. Guests will not be able to enter the arena floor.

Photography
As a service to students and their friends and families, a commercial photographer will be taking two pictures of every candidate as he/she crosses the stage. Candidates will receive photo proofs in the mail at the address given at the ceremony and may then order photos as desired, although there is no obligation to do so.

Guests must remain seated throughout the ceremony and may not block the view of others for purposes of taking pictures or videos. Guests will not be allowed to stand in the aisles during the ceremony. After the ceremony is completed, there will be ample opportunity to seek a wide variety of backgrounds for pictures on the campus. Video camera or camera tripods are not allowed at Cox Arena.
