Graduation symbolizes the culmination of many years of hard work. It is a time for you, your family and friends to recognize and celebrate your success. The faculty and staff of San Diego State University congratulate you and want to mark your achievement with all due pomp and circumstance. We ask your help in making your Commencement ceremony a pleasant experience for all by respecting the rights and feelings of other participants and guests.
The Commencement ceremony is a traditional academic ritual. To participate, you must wear the appropriate academic regalia and maintain decorum. This means: no signs, no fireworks, no bottles, no beach balls, no balloons, no cans, no drugs and no alcohol.
The university will enforce strict adherence to a no-alcohol policy during Commencement events. Neither degree candidates nor their guests will be permitted to bring alcoholic beverages onto the premises or consume alcoholic beverages during any part of Commencement ceremonies.
In addition, please remain in your seat for the entire ceremony. Movement on the arena floor is distracting to guests and disrespectful to speakers.
Candidates choosing not to abide by these rules will not be allowed into the commencement site or will be escorted out of the ceremony.
