Fall Semester 2016

  May 4 Personal registration information available in the SDSU WebPortal.
  May 8 Basic Tuition and Fee payments accepted for registration.
  June 1 New Graduate Student Orientation available (online).
  July 1
Final day for submitting theses with the $50 processing fee to Aztec Shops Montezuma Publishing for thesis review to ensure graduation in August 2016. Without risk.
  July 1
Applications available for May and August 2016 graduation with a bachelor's degree and with an advanced degree.
  July 5–August 19 Theses may be submitted to the Division of Graduate Affairs after this date on an at-risk basis. However, August 2016 graduation is contingent upon completion of final processing by noon, August 15 with $50 processing fee. Students missing this deadline will be required to reapply for graduation for the term in which they expect to graduate.
  July 14 Fall 2016 registration begins.
  July 15–August 1 New Student Orientation for freshmen and parents (held at SDSU).
  July 22 Last day for reporting results on comprehensive examinations to the Division of Graduate Affairs by department or college.
  August 3–August 10
New Student Orientation for transfer students and parents (held at SDSU).
  August 5
Last day of submission of incomplete and RP grade removals (excluding thesis) for August 2016 graduation with an advanced degree.
  August 15
Thesis review process, including publishing, must be completed by noon on this date at Aztec Shops Montezuma Publishing. Students missing the publishing deadline will be required to reapply for graduation for the term in which they expect to graduate. (Noon deadline)
  August 19 Last day for submitting theses for review to Aztec Shops Montezuma Publishing without having to enroll in Thesis 799B the following semester. (Noon deadline.)
  August 20
Faculty and Staff Convocation.
  August 22 First day of fall semester.
  August 26
Last day to officially withdraw for fall semester and receive a full refund (less administrative fee if applicable).
  August 26
Last day for nonresident (foreign and out-of-state) students to pay deferred tuition and not incur service charges.
  August 27
New Student and Family Convocation.
  August 29 FIRST DAY OF CLASSES. Faculty can begin to add seats from class section wait lists. If a seat becomes available, students on the wait list will be added automatically. Faculty can select the number of students to be added to each course section through the class rosters available in the SDSU WebPortal.
  Aug. 29–Sep. 2 Welcome Week.
  September 5 Holiday—Labor Day.
Faculty/staff holiday. Campus closed.
  September 8 Last day for faculty to drop students from classes.
  September 12 Schedule adjustment deadline. Last day to add, drop, or change grading basis (11:59 p.m. deadline.)
  September 12 Last day for payment of fees for registration. (3:30 p.m. deadline.)
  September 12 Last day to officially withdraw from the university without penalty fee for fall semester 2016. Withdrawal after September 12 requires petition for serious and compelling reason.
  September 12 Last day to apply for December 2016 graduation with a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
  September 12 Last day to file petition for concurrent master’s degree credit for fall semester 2016.
  September 26 Census.
  October 1 Applications for admission or readmission to San Diego State University for the fall semester 2017 accepted. Undergraduate applications are NOT accepted after November 30 (postmarked). Graduate applicants should consult Graduate Admissions for closing dates.
  October 7-8 Family Weekend.
  October 28 Final day for submitting theses (without risk) to Aztec Shops Montezuma Publishing for thesis review to ensure graduation in December 2016.
  October 31 Last day to officially withdraw from all classes for fall 2016 and receive a prorated refund (withdrawal after November 7 requires special approval and a penalty fee is assessed).
  Oct. 31–Dec. 30 Theses may be submitted to the Montezuma Publishing on an at-risk basis. However, December 2016 graduation is contingent upon completion of final processing by noon on December 19. Students missing this deadline will be required to reapply for graduation for the term in which they expect to graduate.
  November 11 Holiday—Veterans Day.
Faculty/Staff holiday. Campus closed.
  November 18 Last day for submission of incomplete and RP grade removals (excluding thesis) for December 2016 graduation with an advanced degree.
  November 23-25 Holiday—Thanksgiving recess. No classes will be held Nov. 23, but campus will remain open.
Campus closed Nov. 24-25. Faculty/staff holiday.
  December 14 Last day for reporting results on comprehensive examinations to the Division of Graduate Affairs by department or college.
  December 14 Last day of classes before final examinations.
  December 15-21 Final examinations.
  December 19 Thesis review process, including publishing, must be completed by noon on this date at Aztec Shops Montezuma Publishing. Students missing the publishing deadline will be required to reapply for graduation for the term in which they expect to graduate. (Noon deadline)
  December 30 Last day for submitting theses for review to Aztec Shops Montezuma Publishing for the current term without having to enroll in Thesis 799B the following semester. (Noon deadline.)

  December 28 & 30 Campus open. No classes.
  December 30 Grades due from instructors. (11 p.m. deadline.)
  December 30 Last day of fall semester.
  December 22–27 Holiday—Winter recess.
Faculty/staff holiday. Campus closed.
  January 2, 2017 Holiday—New Year's Day Observed.
