Meet Current Student Veterans

Meet SDSU students that are serving their country as U.S. military personnel or veterans.


David Buell

U.S. Navy veteran and SDSU management major, David Buell, will complete his degree this May.

Buell, a native of Santa Cruz, California, began his service with the Navy in 1998, where he served on the U.S.S. Frank-Cable in Guam until 2002. From 2002 to 2006 he was stationed in San Diego, when he received an honorable discharge and began his education at SDSU.

During his time in the Navy, Buell was an electrician that serviced submarines throughout the Pacific, including those docked in Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong and Japan.

Molly Goodman

SDSU accounting student Molly Goodman is currently serving in the Naval Reserves as a petty officer, second class (LN2), at the 32nd Street Naval Base in San Diego. Goodman is a legalman (paralegal), working with the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps, which provides legal assistance to Navy personnel.

Originally from Bend, Oregon, Goodman was previously deployed in Monterey, California and Meridian, Mississippi. She was also stationed in Washington, D.C. from 2000 to 2002, where she served with the Ceremonial Guard, also called the Presidential Honor Guard. Her duties with the Ceremonial Guard included marching at funerals at Arlington National Cemetery (including at funerals of people lost during the 9/11 terrorist attacks), greeting Pentagon dignitary arrivals, and wreath-layings at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Navy Memorial. Goodman also marched in the 2001 inauguration of George W. Bush.

Goodman has earned numerous military honors and awards, including finishing at the top of her class in Reserve Legalman A-School and receiving a total of five Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medals during her time in active and reserve duty.

Shelley House

Pre-business major Shelley House exemplifies the term “student soldier.” House grew up in Hastings, Nebraska, which is where she joined the U.S. Marine Corps. She has been accepted into an officer commissioning program, which allows her to take classes full-time at SDSU. She is also the VP of membership and marketing for SDSU’s Student Veteran Organization.

House has served at bases in Washington, D.C. Pensacola, Florida and Camp Pendleton. She completed a tour of duty in Iraq from April to November, 2007. This Dean’s List student is also the assistant supply officer for her Navy-ROTC battalion at SDSU and was recently honored with a Physical Training Award for achieving a near-perfect score (295 out of 300) on her Physical Fitness Test (PFT).

Enno Albert Rodriguez

U.S. Marine Enno Rodriguez is in the process of completing his degree in business administration with an emphasis in management. A native of San Bruno, California, Rodriguez is currently serving the in Navy-ROTC and will become an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps once he earns his degree.

Rodriguez served in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom from January 2003 to March 2003 and in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom from March 2003 to August 2003 and in the 1st Tanks Battalion in Twenty-Nine Palms, California. He has also served as an enhanced area canvassing recruiter for the 12 Marine Corps district in San Diego.
