Viejas Arena

Viejas Arena

Viejas Arena opened in 1997 as a premier facility for Aztec basketball games, and provides a venue for university functions such as Commencement and New Student and Family Convocation, cultural events, concerts, and other special-event programming.

The arena was built on the site of the old Aztec Bowl stadium, which hosted SDSU football games and special events from 1936 to 1967. Aztec Bowl's original concrete bleachers remain in tact, and a 10-ton piece of concrete serves as a California landmark commemorating President John F. Kennedy's 1963 commencement address on the 40-yard line.
