San Diego State University's primary commitment is to the safety, health and wellbeing of all campus community members, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Staying conscious of the uncertainty of COVID-19, the The Joan and Art Barron Veterans Center is now open. Please feel free to continue to contact us by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or connect virtually Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
Student Veterans House at San Diego State University
The Student Veterans House—the first of its kind in the U.S.—serves as a gathering place for all military affiliated students (veterans, active duty, reserve, spouses, and dependents) to come together and build a network of camaraderie and support with other students from similar backgrounds.
Students can visit the House before, between, or after classes to study, relax, take a nap, grab a bite to eat, or just hang out. Additionally, several events designed to enhance and promote the academic success, professional development, and personal growth of the military student are held at the Student Veterans House on a regular basis. These include, but are not limited to, career-based workshops, meetings and events with the Student Veteran Organization and the Veterans Alumni Organization, and interactive cross-generational opportunities.
Living on Campus
Living on campus can have several advantages over commuting campus to include academic success, proximity to university offices and classes, the SDSU Transit Center, and other features. Military affiliated students* are given priority opportunities to live in designated apartments adjacent to the Student Veterans House located near the corner of 55th Street and Hardy Avenue.
Each of the six available apartments has three bedrooms which are leased individually to occupants and include common area usage, a membership to the Aztec Recreation Center, and other amenities.
Qualified students will provide the Property Management Office with necessary documentation from the Joan and Art Barron Veterans Center (a “blue slip”) assigning the priority code and waiving the requirement for a lease co-signer.** For apartment availability or information on lease agreements, please contact the Fraternity Row Leasing Office at (619) 487-0245. For more information on the “blue slip” or military affiliate programs on campus, please contact the Joan and Art Barron Veterans Center at (619) 594-5813.
*Excludes certain first-time freshman who may be required to live in the residency halls. For questions on the SDSU residency halls and policy, please contact the Housing Administration and Residential Education office at (619) 594-5742.
**The Barron Veterans Center has no involvement in the assigning of rooms or maintaining the accountability of occupants
