Open University enrollment does not constitute formal admission to the university. Open University students earn non matriculated resident credit and if students eventually matriculate to the university, no more than 24 units completed through Open University will be applied to the degree. Graduate students should consult the Graduate Bulletin for information on these matters.
Non-matriculated foreign students (nonresidents) from non-English speaking countries must show evidence of having achieved a score of at least 450 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or the equivalent, prior to being permitted to register in the Open University program. A form verifying an acceptable score must be obtained from the American Language Institute and presented to the Cashier at the time of registration.
I-20 forms are NOT issued by the Extension Programs Office; therefore, students cannot maintain student status by enrolling only in Extension or Open University classes. Only matriculated students and those enrolled in the American Language Institute can maintain student status.
Online WebPortal Accounts: All Extended Studies students taking credit courses who need to access SDSU online services (transcripts, library, blackboard, etc.) should create an SDSU WebPortal account by going to the SDSU WebPortal.
